Looking good isn't the be all and end all, but most of us would admit that it's high on our list of priorities when we're heading out.So the results of a new survey by Superdrug may not come as much of a surprise.
According to the poll, the average woman will spend around £9,000 on make-up during her lifetime.
It all begins at the age of 16 when mascara, lipstick and foundation become must-haves and we ladies buy these staple handbag items around five times each year.
With the price of these pick-me-ups estimated at £26.24 each time, the total quickly mounts up to £131.20 every year – and that's £8,528 over a lifetime.
Mascara comes out top in the list of facial expenses, with £2,291 the cost of a lifetime's lush lashes.
Mind you, 70 per cent of the 3,000 women surveyed insisted that they never left the house without putting their face on, and a fifth were careful not to let their partner see a make-up free face.
Superdrug beauty director, Saray Wolverson, told the Daily Mail: "It's no surprise that the cost of all our lipsticks and essential make-up adds up to such a staggering figure.
"Women use make-up as a tool to boost their confidence and as a way to make themselves feel fashionable and youthful."
And since a recent study found that most of us are carrying out-of-date cosmetics, just imagine what the cost would be if we stuck to the sell-by date.

I've used some of the most expensive anti-aging and anti-wrinkle creams from the top lines in the world. I've had companies make "custom formulations" for my skin. I have to say that LifeCell ( HTtP://tiny.cc/LifeCell ) beats them all. It is the ultimate anti-aging product. For those who want serious anti-aging skin care, this is the product to use, bar none.
